"This region lies in the center of our peninsula and looks like a green continuity of hills, long valleys, wide plains. A quiet scenery of peace. Lakes and rivers mark our land which man's patience has cultivated throughout the centuries.
If Umbria is known as a Region of human dimensions, this is mostly due to its people who have known how to look for and strike a happy medium between secular traditions and the evolutionary thrust of progress. A balance which facilitates and simplifies human relationships at all levels."

"Perugia, the chief town of Umbria (c. 125,000 inhabitants), is a city of outstanding artistic interest (of note, among other things, the National Gallery, the Archeological Museums, the Cathedral Museum). Two periods stand out in its history: the Etruscan and the medieval-early Renaissance period, until the 16th century. From the former, S. Pietro, S. Francisco, the Cathedral, the Priors; Place, the Collegio del Cambio, S. Bernardino) as well, in several places, as the old urban system, with narrow lanes and rude buildings. A strong and severe city, it is softened by nature's smile, by the light-filled views over the Tiber Valley, by the grace of its 15th century painters (B. Bonfigli, the Caporalis, Fiorenzo di Lorenzo, etc.) among whom excel Pintoricchi and Perugino master of the sublime Raphael, who left us a fresco in the oratory of the Church of S. Severo. In summer and autumn the city is the venue of important theatrical and musical events. Not far from Perugia, o the road to Todi, is the township of Deruta, famous right from the Middle Ages for its artistic pottery."
